Working Foreman
Job description
Working Foreman / Workshop Supervisor
As a Working Foreman, you combine hands-on technical work with logistical responsibility within a growing organization. Would you like to work in an international environment where your efforts directly contribute to sustainable energy projects across Africa? Then this is your opportunity.
About Independent Energy
Since 2011, Independent Energy has been designing, supplying, and installing off-grid solar energy systems. We provide reliable, clean, and affordable electricity to locations without access to the power grid. Our projects are primarily located in Africa, where we help bring electricity to entire communities. In addition, we work on innovative energy solutions.
From our office and workshop in Haarlem, the Netherlands, we manage both the wholesale distribution of high-quality energy components and the delivery of complex international energy projects. We are a compact, internationally oriented company with short communication lines, significant individual responsibility, and a shared ambition: making sustainable energy accessible where it is needed most.
What will you do?
As a Working Foreman, you are responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of activities within our workshop and managing incoming and outgoing goods flows. You make sure materials are stored correctly, orders are processed accurately, and colleagues have everything they need to continue building innovative energy systems. In doing so, you contribute directly to projects that bring sustainable energy to places where it makes a real difference.
One day, you may be inspecting incoming deliveries, processing goods in the system, and preparing shipments for transport. The next day, you may be actively involved in assembling solar and battery systems, outfitting containers with batteries, cabling, and equipment, or supporting installation work in the workshop. Meanwhile, you maintain oversight of inventory levels and ensure materials are available for upcoming projects.
You think ahead, stay organized, and ensure your colleagues can continue working efficiently. Together with the Operations Director and the administration team, you coordinate what is needed for the days and weeks ahead. You help maintain structure within the workshop, manage inventory, and support colleagues whenever necessary. Over time, you will have the opportunity to take on a larger role in the day-to-day coordination of the workshop team.
What can you expect?
Working at Independent Energy means contributing to projects that truly matter. While you ensure the workshop remains organized and energy systems are built on time, entire communities gain access to reliable electricity thanks to the collective efforts of the team. This makes the role far more meaningful than a standard logistics or technical position.
In addition, we offer:
A gross monthly salary between €3,000 and €4,000;
Profit-sharing opportunities;
Flexible working hours;
A modern office and workshop in Haarlem;
An informal working environment, including Friday afternoon social gatherings;
Opportunities for personal and professional development within a growing organization;
Meaningful work with visible social impact in the field of sustainable energy.
What are we looking for?
You enjoy creating order and maintaining oversight, and you work accurately and systematically. You have a technical mindset, enjoy learning new skills, and like combining practical work with organizational responsibilities. You thrive in a small organization where colleagues support one another and where your contribution is immediately visible.
In addition, you bring:
At least MBO-level vocational education and working/thinking ability;
Technical insight or a strong technical affinity;
A structured and detail-oriented way of working;
Independence and a strong sense of responsibility;
Experience with solar energy systems, electrical engineering, or panel building is an advantage;
A forklift certificate is an advantage.
